Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coast as a Category 4 storm
on Friday, August 25. It will take months, and in some areas years, to restore
and rebuild. We remember
1 John 3:17-18…”If anyone has material possessions and sees a
brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God
be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with
actions and in truth.”
Here are three ways you can help:
Pray for the people who have had to leave everything behind, especially those with nowhere to go. Pray for those who were unable to evacuate, stranded in their homes. Ask for God’s provision and care.
Pray for the first responders, National Guard, and disaster relief volunteers and all others working to rescue those who are stranded.
Our partner International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES) is taking donations to help with Hurricane Harvey relief. The IDES disaster response coordinator has been in contact with various churches in the affected area and they are working with the churches to determine the most effective response. Supplies will be delivered in Texas . Go to http://www.ides.org/news for a link to donate online or by check.
We want to find the right way to help, and in situations like thisone that takes time and discernment. The Lord may lead you to go help individually, given your talents and skills. By all means do so. You are the Church! Stay tuned for potential opportunities for a team of Outlookers help rebuild and restore.
